Project Overview - Electric Drive Train

A quick overview  of a project I completed for CrossChasm Technologies. The scope of the project was the design, manufacture, and installation of an electric motor drive train. This project involved several main tasks of a typical engineering project including:

  • system requiements definition

  • design and structural analysis

  • cost estimation and design option evaluation

  • sub-system supplier selection

  • manufacturing management

  • installation and inspection

Several elements of the drive train had been defined by the project owner. This included the chassis and available mounting points, the motor and it positioning, and the gear box jack shaft positioning (defined by stock gear box). The designed assembly includes a vibration damping shaft coupler between the motor and jack shaft, and support bearing on the jack shaft.

The drive train assembly was installed on time, and on budget despite an aggressive timeline of 30 days total.

The CAD, drawings and CNC machining input files were created using Autodesk Inventor 2012.

Client Testimonial:

"A turn-key solution, was provided for a structure in which space constraints were numerous, mounting points were scarce; the design had to be imaginative in order to meet our requirements. The work was completed on time and on budget even though the contract was only about 30 days. We are very satisfied with the end result."
