Harness Design

Battery Pack

This image shows a model of a battery pack with wiring harness design in process. The battery design including harness was created using Creo Elements 2.0 with the Cabling and Piping extension. The high and low power harnesses were all created using auto-routing technique which parametrically links the harness and connector to the CAD assembly. This allows the 3D harness design, and the 2D drawings to auto-update as the assembly is modified (depending on the modification). I created a tutorial for the process, it is available here.

Chain Drive Differential

This slideshow presents a model of a chain drive differential assembly. This assembly was created using Pro Engineer.

Parametric Assembly Design

Race Car Suspension

This image shows a model of a race car with the left side suspension highlighted. The suspension assembly is defined by a skeleton part which includes planes, axes, and points. The reference geometry is used to place system parts as well as define tube lengths and end profiles. The suspension skeleton is linked to the wheel and frame skeletons such that re-design involving relative movement between the frame and wheels would result in auto-update of the suspension parts placement and design. A typical design adjustment could be ride height, camber, pitch angle, etc. This assembly was created using Pro Engineer. Read more...

Mechanism Layout

Aircraft Door

This image shows a model of an aircraft door assembly with design layout. The layout shows the primary sketches of the design. The large circle represents the fuselage while the sets of smaller circles define the door hinge mechanics. The assembly parts are parametrized based on the layout such that they auto-update with changes made to the layout. This assembly was created using Solidworks.

Design

The designs presented here are all top down, parametric assemblies. The design process begins with a skeleton/layout consisting of reference geometry and 2D/3D sketches. If the assembly includes system components they would be placed in the assembly according to the skeleton/layout, or according to other requirements. With the skeleton/layout and systems in place, parts and sub-assemblies are created to complete the design.
